Job Description for the Estimator Technician

Estimating the cost of the project is the basic step in ensuring the successful implementation of the proposed plans of action for any project. Estimating Technicians responsibilities are significant in ensuring the growth and success of any organization. They are responsible for estimating the cost of the project and assist in determining the cost of the product or service that will be manufactured.

Job Responsibilities for Estimator Technician

Coordination with engineering outside sales and inside sales

Consults with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues

Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost materials and labor estimates

Prepare and maintain templates and/or spreadsheets used for pricing

Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work

Review material and labor requirements

Establish material breakdown

Reviews engineering, specifications

Works with engineering to establish production specifications when required

Works with internal department to establish work job priorities

Qualifications for Estimator Technician

Two or more years experience preparing cost estimates

Must be able to collaborate working with other departments

Great interpersonal communication skills

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints

Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and tools

Computer skills

Must be punctual and dependable

Desired Essential Skills for Estimator Technician

An individual who is good at mathematics with strong analytical skills and attention to detail will definitely succeed in the field of estimation. He should possess the relevant technical knowledge and should be comfortable using various computer programs as he needs to deal with huge database. He should have excellent speaking and writing skills which are critical in maintaining good relationship with the clients and in documentation of various reports. Besides these, he should possess excellent time management and organization skills.

Education for Estimator Technician

HS Diploma

Mechanical background strongly encouraged
